Pack, Pray, Positive

“Pack, Pray, Positive” – A Spiritual Moment to end the School Day

“Pack, Pray, Positive” is a simple yet deeply meaningful routine that concludes each school day in our Christian primary school. It reflects our commitment to nurturing the whole child — academically, emotionally, and spiritually — rooted in the teachings of Jesus and the rhythms of Christian worship.

Christian Distinctiveness and Theological Foundations

“Pack, Pray, Positive” is more than a classroom routine; it is a daily act of worship — a form of lived liturgy that shapes hearts and minds. It reflects a Christian vision of education where every moment is an opportunity to grow in love, wisdom, and grace.

Key Theological Themes

  • Putting God First and Last
As the school day begins with worship, it also ends with prayer and reflection, reinforcing the rhythm of daily discipleship.
  • Gratitude and Joy
Children are encouraged to recognise God’s presence in the ordinary moments of the day, cultivating a spirit of thankfulness.
  • Community and Encouragement
Sharing positives nurtures a culture of mutual encouragement and affirmation, reflecting Hebrews 10:24:
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”
  • Spiritual Formation
These daily practices help children develop lifelong habits of prayer, reflection, responsibility, and gratitude.

1. Pack – Preparing to Leave with Purpose

The first step is practical: children pack away their belongings and prepare to go home. However, this moment is approached with intention and care. It marks a transition, echoing the biblical principle of stewardship — caring responsibly for what we have been given (Genesis 2:15).

As children tidy their space, they are reminded that order, responsibility, and respect for their environment are not merely routines, but expressions of worship and gratitude.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…”
— Colossians 3:23

2. Pray – Ending the Day with God

The class are then invited to say the school prayer together. This collective act of worship creates a sacred pause at the end of the day, intentionally placing God at the centre of the school’s closing moments, just as He is at the beginning through morning worship or reflection.

This time of prayer:

  • Acknowledges God’s presence throughout the day
  • Gives thanks for learning, friendships, and challenges faced
  • Asks for God’s blessing upon everyone in the school community

This practice reflects the Christian belief in God’s constancy — that He is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end (Revelation 22:13). By praying together at the close of the day, children are reminded that God goes with them beyond the classroom walls and into their homes and communities.

3. Positive – Speaking Life and Gratitude

Finally, each child is invited to share a positive moment from their day. This may include:

  • An act of kindness they gave or received
  • Something they learned or achieved
  • A joyful or humorous moment that lifted their spirits
  • Something they are grateful for

Rooted in Philippians 4:8, this practice encourages children to focus on what is good, hopeful, and life‑giving. Ending the day in this way helps children to:

  • Recognise and affirm the goodness within their experiences
  • Build emotional resilience through gratitude and reflection
  • Encourage one another by celebrating shared joy

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Quote from a Year 4 child:“Today I am grateful for my friends and all the teachers.”
