Physical Education & Sport

Our Vision

Our vision is to inspire a lifelong love of sport through engaging, inclusive PE that builds teamwork, communication, and confidence. We nurture perseverance and resilience, promoting mental wellbeing and physical health. Every child will develop the skills to stay active, fit, and fulfilled.

Our curriculum

PE is a core part of our curriculum, with all pupils receiving a minimum of two hours of PE per week, covering both indoor and outdoor activities. This includes:

  • Skill development in tennis, cricket, football, and netball
  • Opportunities to evaluate progress, improve technique, and understand fitness and health
  • Weekly engagement in Forest School for Reception to Year 6
  • Daily active play at break and lunch with access to varied equipment. From January 2025 this includes an OPAL approach to enhance and further development of physical activity during time outdoors.

We coach children in tennis, football, netball and rugby.

Dance and Movement

Children enjoy dance as a way to explore movement, using different parts of their bodies and thinking about the space around them.

The dance is linked to the topics covered in each year group, and the children consider both music and movement to create motifs and sequences of performances individually and in groups to demonstrate themes.

The children learn to move in time to the music, to create shapes with their bodies to tell a story as well as reflecting on precision in a performance and exploring concepts of balance and symmetry.

Competitions and Talent Development

We have thriving girls and boys football teams who regularly compete against other schools. Children who are identified as “gifted and talented” in sport are encouraged to take opportunities that will help them achieve their potential, and we are proud of their successes in areas such as in cross country.

Our pupils entered the North Warwickshire swimming gala in 2025. The girls’ team delivered an impressive performance, securing a fantastic 2nd place, while the boys’ team emerged as champions in their event. Several individual victories also contributed to what was a fantastic morning of competition.

Celebrating Sporting Achievements

Sports days are held annually in the summer term. Infants take part in traditional races such as the egg and spoon and relay races. Juniors compete in their house teams in athletic disciplines they have been practising, such as javelin, sprint and long jump. These events promote teamwork, fair play and fun and are very well supported by parents and carers.

Bikeability

We offer cycling proficiency training during the summer term for Key Stage 2 children, which is designed to give them the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads. This opportunity links to our ‘Let’s Go Zero’ Sustainability programme which seeks to promote alternative means of travel to school.

Swimming

Children in Year 5 go swimming at Coleshill Swimming Pool. Pupils work towards distance and water safety awards. All pupils should be able to swim at least 25m unaided by the time they finish lessons at the end of Year 5.

Extra-Curricular Sports Activities

We are pleased to offer our pupils a range of extra-curricular sports activities at lunch time and after school, including dance, football, tennis and athletics. Some activities are free and others carry a small charge. There are different opportunities available for infant and junior children and at different times of year. All external providers have the relevant DBS/CRB checks and insurance.

The school also signposts sports activities run by local providers during term time and in the holidays. You will be able to find out about all these through the school newsletter or you can ask at the office.

Residential trips

Children in Year 6 have the opportunity to go to Manor Adventure to experience outward bound activities including climbing and archery.

Working with external partners

We are affiliated to the North Warwickshire Sports Partnership and the North Solihull School Sports Association.

Facilities

We are very fortunate to have excellent indoor and outdoor facilities, including apparatus in the hall, a large playing field, three playgrounds, a trim trail and a specific play area for the Early Years Foundation Stage children.
