Maths Vision

Our Approach to Maths

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

In EYFS, our maths curriculum is guided by the White Rose Maths small steps. We prioritise early number skills, as these form the foundations for future learning. Children explore number, patterns, and relationships through hands-on, engaging activities that build deep understanding and prepare them for a successful transition into KS1.

Key Stage 1 (KS1)

In KS1, we continue to follow the White Rose Maths scheme to ensure structured progression in fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving. We also deliver the Mastering Number programme to strengthen early number sense. Through short, focused daily sessions, pupils develop confidence, flexibility, and strong number relationships, supporting their success across the maths curriculum.

Key Stage 2 (KS2)

In KS2, we build on earlier foundations while continuing to adapt the White Rose Maths scheme for depth and progression. A major focus is times tables mastery, with a structured approach to achieving rapid recall of multiplication facts by the end of Year 4. Through regular practice and assessment, pupils develop the fluency needed for more complex mathematical concepts. Our curriculum aims to challenge, inspire, and prepare pupils for the next stage of their learning.

Vibrant

Mathematical learning is vibrant, rich and purposeful, offering engaging practical experiences in EYFS and building through carefully structured progression in KS1 and KS2. These experiences nurture curiosity, enjoyment and confidence, helping pupils develop a strong sense of achievement as they deepen their understanding.

Rooted

Mathematics is rooted in our Christian vision through a commitment to helping every child feel safe, known and valued as a learner. The mastery approach emphasises growth, resilience and the belief that all children can succeed. Through carefully sequenced teaching, the development of confidence, and nurturing curiosity, maths supports character formation and fosters dignity and perseverance in every child.

Connected

The maths curriculum is intentionally connected, building clear links across year groups and between concepts. Through a coherent, well‑sequenced mastery approach, children learn to recognise patterns, relationships and the relevance of mathematics in the wider world, ensuring understanding grows cumulatively and meaningfully over time.

Inclusive

Our maths curriculum is inclusive by design, using a consistent Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract approach and high‑quality scaffolding so every pupil can access and master key concepts. Teachers adapt White Rose and Mastering Number to meet diverse needs, ensuring all children build secure understanding, fluency and reasoning. Ongoing assessment, monitoring and targeted support enable every child to progress and feel successful.

Adaptations in Mathematics

Enrichment Opportunities

As part of our partnership with the North Warwickshire BDMAT schools, a group of our Gifted and Talented mathematicians took part in an exciting critical‑thinking and mathematical reasoning workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with peers from other schools, applying their mathematical knowledge, fluency and conceptual understanding to tackle rich problem‑solving tasks. This experience not only extended their reasoning skills but also nurtured confidence, curiosity and a deeper enjoyment of mathematics.
